About Me

I was born in Colorado Springs, CO in October of 1986. I have been writing ever since I can remember...(I have first grade stories to prove it) In fact, a few of the characters in the Jane Pass City Collection are based from my first grade writings. I started the Jane Pass City Collection when I was eight, and still write them in my free time today. (Though I did go through them and correct mistakes I couldn't see when I was in Elementary School.)

I also like to write poetry. Some of my poems were aired on the kids show Zoom and won several contests. I wrote The Seven Pipes (originally The Tale of the Seven Pipes) when I was twelve. I got the idea for it when I was writing a poem for a contest. I dropped it (that's how bad it was) but forgot to delete it off my computer. A few days later, after I was finished with a book from a favorite author, I thought about how cool it would be if this and that happened. I sat down to write a letter, asking the author to put my ideas into a book, when I opened the poem. Why not just write the book myself?

It wasn't until I was almost finished with my next novel, in the summer of 2001 before I decided to try to get published. I was visiting my grandparents in Alabama, when someone suggested that I should try to get published. I've heard the suggestion before, and even got The Seven Pipes edited by a teacher, to send to publishers. Even though it was edited and near perfect, actually sending it to someone made me nervous. I didn't know the first thing about getting published (That and the fact I was lazy)

What made me sit down an actually start looking for publishers, was my grandma's speech ("I wanted to publish a book, but I never got to it, 30 years ago...") and the fact that many people, family and friends, were supporting me. I started looking for a publisher and only four months later I was signing a contract with ZumayaPublishing. Now, I am starting my fourth novel The Gemini as I wait for a bigger publishing house to accept  The Fairy Tale (samples can be viewed in the Library on this site)

I was 15 years old and published. Just goes to show you what perseverance can do...for anyone.
